Avner Wishnitzer

I am a faculty member at the Department of Middle Eastern and African Studies at Tel Aviv University and my main field of research is the cultural history of the late Ottoman period. I wrote my doctoral dissertation at Tel Aviv University under the supervision of Ehud Toledano and was later a Fulbright post-doctoral fellow at the University of Washington in Seattle, a Lady Davis post-doctoral Fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a Krietman Post-Doctoral Fellow at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. My book Reading Clocks Alla Turca: Time and Society in the Late Ottoman Empire will be published by University of Chicago Press in 2015. My current research focuses on nighttime and nightlife in the late Ottoman period.
