Irena Fliter

I am a PhD student at the School of Historical Studies in Tel Aviv University under the supervision of Dr. Miri Shefer-Mossensohn. My research focuses Ottoman diplomats as both private individuals and representatives of the government. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Ottoman diplomats were simultaneously carrying out official policy as well as participating in the non-official intellectual, cultural and commercial exchanges. Hence, at the core of my research are questions about the practice of government through both the direct political exchange as well as through indirect channels of cultural and commercial networks.
